Kütu Folk Records is an indie record label based in Clermont-Ferrand (France). It has been created by a collective of artists who decided to make each album as an artwork : every album is designed by the artists themselves and built with hand-sewn cardboard sleeves. This part of their work is very important to perceive their universe and feel their music deeply. I have picked around 5 songs for each band in order to let you understand and enter in the world of each of them. No worries about the silence betweens the songs, I want it this : when I listen to folk music, I need some time to really appreciate the sound, the lyrics and what they make me feel. All these artists – St. Augustine, Hospital Ships, Evening Hymns, The Delano Orchestra, Soso, Leopold Skin, Pastry Case – are wonderful musicians and songwriters. It is good and hopeful to know that we have in France this quality of folk artists, who are also engaged on an innovative way to resist against the disc crisis.
